The Main Components Of Artificial Turf

By Clarice Cohen

Artificial turf is a product made from synthetic fibers. It is a surface designed to look like natural grass. Most turf is found in sports arenas where grass is used. It may also be seen in residential and commercial areas because of its low maintenance.

The product is preferred because it does not require the use of irrigation or trimming and is able to withstand heavy use. Stadiums, especially those with domes, install this type of surface because it is more convenient then planting real grass that will not grow without proper sunlight exposure. The synthetic grass gained popularity in the 1960s, following the development of the Astrodome, which included the product.

The product can be found around swimming pools or in rooftop gardens. They are also commonly found in yards of vacation homes because they retain their appearance without constant maintenance. This type of surface may be recommended for homeowners that cannot do yard work because of age or disability.

There are some disadvantages to this artificial surface. It does have a limited life span. Furthermore, thought it does not require irrigation and trimming, it does require cleaning. Some types need infill such as silicon sand or granulated rubber. These materials can leech into the water table.

Pathogens can breed on this surface when it goes without proper cleaning with a disinfectant. The texture of the material could cause burns and abrasions on the skin that surpass any friction injuries that could occur between skin and natural grass. Also, the fibers tend to hold more heat than grass, even in the sunlight, would.

This turf is widely used in sport environments. Particularly in sports baseball, tennis, American football, field hockey and football. It is also common in landscaping because of its perks, specifically the low maintenance. Some airports add turf as well.

Artificial turf is a product designed to imitate the look and feel of grass. Though it may appear similar, it has many different advantages and disadvantages to natural grass. Whether or not this product is appropriate for your needs is a matter best decided by location and use. artificial turf
