Decorating Ideas Everyone Can Afford

By Reuben Riggs

The best part of moving is that we get the chance to decorate fresh. Putting a new spin on your home can be great! Of course, many people are intimidated by the cost and size of a home decorating process. Thankfully there are plenty of options available for people who want to create a homey feeling in their dwelling that do not involve spending thousands (or sometimes even hundreds of dollars). You can decorate your home very nicely without spending a lot of money. What are some ways that you can decorate your home without spending all of the money you've worked so hard to save? This article has tips to help you out.

Don't worry about going to galleries for your art. It isn't important that you get a bunch of original art work right away. Instead look for prints of your favorite works of art. Original art is more expensive than prints. Prints are more affordable and they are easier to get home. Saving money on prints is easy because they are usually printed in easily farmable proportions so you can do the framing on your own. All you have to do is find a frame that you like at a sale and you can do the framing yourself. Buying prints of your favorite artwork and doing the framing yourself is easier on your budget and your schedule because you don't have to cater to a gallery's schedule or have to pick up a framed piece of art as soon as a framer calls you.

Sometimes leaving a space blank is the best thing you can do. Too much decoration can cause a home to feel claustrophobic even if there is very little in it. Don't let other things distract from the pieces that you like the most!

Don't put a bunch of things on a shelf when just a few will do. This way the pieces you choose will be easier to spot and you'll be able to truly appreciate them. Enjoying your decorating is hard to do when you've overdone it by filling every spare bit of a wall with decorative items. You want to leave some room open no matter what kind of decorating theme you have. The first thing any good decorator learns is to embrace the empty spaces in a room.

Julia Child did this in her kitchen! What about the really pretty patterned blanket that you never get to bring out because you don't want it to get dirty? Wouldn't it make a great wall hanging? Who says that quilts and blankets only belong on beds and couches? What other everyday items can you put to decorative use? There is no law that says home decorating has to be an expensive endeavor. There is no need to dedicate great chunks of time to home decorating. Having fun is the point of decorating your house! You won't be able to enjoy your home's decor if all you can think about is how much time it cost you and how much money you spent on the project.
