Selecting The Right Plants For Your New Garden

By Aandi Arri

Maybe you have been excited about creating a new garden when you first bought your home. Perhaps you went to the nearby home & gardening store and bought the most colorful or attractive plants.

You could have planted them and aimed to take care of them but the plants or flowers have either quit thriving or dried up and died. The most likely reason behind your failure is that you did not do enough research on what soil works best for what plants. If you want to succeed in your gardening, here are some suggestions you should follow.

To start with, you have to know what kind of soil you currently have. Certain types of soil can hold moisture for a long time despite the fact that others may dry up quickly.

This depends on how fast the soil can absorb the water when it rains or when you water your garden. If perhaps you find that your soil dries out quickly after a rain it is best to find plants that don't need a great deal of water to survive.

Also if your backyard soil stays damp for a long time after a rain you will need to find plants that can survive with lots of water. This is just the first step in choosing the right plants.

Another thing to look at is how much sunlight your backyard receives on a daily basis. You could have plants which thrive in brilliant sunlight. You will also have plants that are not able to handle too much sunlight and simply die.

You notice this holds true for gardens that are mostly in shaded areas. So when choosing your plants, make sure that they can of course handle the amount of sunlight your garden receives.

Also, when you add plants to your garden, be sure that they are not too close together. When plants really are way too close together, they may not receive the right amount of water and nutrients to survive.

Many plants may simply die because of this. Thus, you need to make sure that you have got 1 1/2 feet to 2 feet of space between each plant. When you end up planting large plants, ensure that you leave additional space.

By following the simple guidelines above you will find that you will be able to grow a beautiful garden with out having to worry about all the plants dying. You will probably notice that you usually are spending less trying to keep all your plants healthy. You should know your garden is something that you can look at and enjoy, not something to focus on every day.
